Fused glass, with its mesmerizing qualities akin to “transparent solid water,” captivated Suzie’s imagination and set her on a path of relentless exploration and learning. She embarked on a journey that took her across continents, from intensive workshops in America to the historic glass art centers of Europe, once travel became possible again. Alongside these hands-on experiences, Suzie dedicated herself to a rigorous study regimen, poring over books, absorbing online tutorials, and engaging in the timeless method of trial and error. Through this process, she gained profound insights into the very essence of glass, understanding its preferences for thickness, the precise conditions needed for its transformation through various firing zones, and the intricate dance of temperature and time.
Suzie’s artistic repertoire is as diverse as it is complex, encompassing a wide array of techniques such as strip construction, weaving, frit layering, drop-outs, frit stretching, slumping, tacking, full fusing, and the creation of vitrigraph Murrini. Each piece she creates is a testament to her mastery over the medium and her innovative spirit.
Beyond the confines of her workshop, Suzie finds boundless inspiration in the depths of the ocean. An avid scuba diver and underwater photographer, she traverses the globe, exploring the underwater realm and capturing its ephemeral beauty. The lush jewel tones of coral gardens, the intricate dance of aquatic creatures, and the serene silence of the deep sea infuse her work with a sense of wonder and a deep respect for nature.
