Kennebunkport’s Christmas Prelude has been the seaside town’s way of kicking off the holiday season since 1982. Since then, it’s become one of the area’s most popular annual events. An excellent way to take advantage of holiday shopping, it is also a tribute to Christmases past when the town transforms itself with traditional decorations, bright lights, and classic holiday festivities.
Shoppers will enjoy the steals and deals around town, with stores offering seasonal discounts and area businesses and galleries serving up cookies and fresh cider to warm up visitors as they browse. Local craft fairs kick into gear, offering unique handmade gifts from local artisans, and special events include fish chowder supper, chariot rides, a cocktail party, a lobster bake, live music, and trolley rides – even a hat parade. Santa’s arrival on a real Maine lobster boat is a family highlight, as is the Dock Square tree lighting, with the local high school choir providing carols, which officially begins the season.
