Women’s History Walking Tour

Join Maine Historical Society for a guided tour of Portland highlighting the lives, work, and history of women. Discover the historic impact women have had shaping Maine’s largest city from stories of familiar names like Anne Longfellow Pierce, to lesser-known tales of the workers at Curtis and Sons Chewing Gum factory, and the Portland munitions factories during WWI. Famous city residents, industries, architecture, landmarks, and social history are among topics covered.

This Women’s History Walking Tour will be offered exclusively and weather permitting on: Friday, August 22 at 10 a.m. – route TBA. The tour will begin in front of MHS, 489 Congress Street. It lasts 60 – 90 minutes and involves a lot of walking in an urban environment, including going uphill and downhill and crossing busy streets. Be advised that public seating may not be available at most stops on the tour.

The tour may be canceled due to inclement weather or last-minute staffing shortages. Please include your contact information when making a reservation so MHS staff can keep you informed of any last-minute cancellations.
