Portland, Maine 04101 United States
10:00 am-12:00 pm
In 1825-26, the last surviving major general of the Revolutionary War Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette toured United States, receiving a hero’s welcome everywhere he went. He visited Portland, Maine on June 24 – 26, greeted with great fanfare and an address by Stephen Longfellow.
Maine Historical Society will mark the 200th anniversary of this historic visit (as well as the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution) by welcoming Lafayette once again at our campus on Congress Street on June 25, 2025! This program is part of our series commemorating the Semiquincentennial of the United States of America and is presented in partnership with The American Friends of Lafayette.
