Heroic Dogs in Maine:

Join us for a tail-wagging adventure as we follow the story of Togo, the brave sled dog who helped save lives during the 1925 Serum Run in Alaska! After his heroic journey, Togo found a peaceful home at Poland Spring, right near the historic Maine State Building, where his story lives on. Learn about his amazing life, explore a bit of Poland Spring’s past, and meet Sawyer, a retired sled dog and descendant of Togo, in this fun presentation!

This program is offered as a companion to our exhibit Best Friends: Mainers and Their Pets, on view through June 6, 2025. About the presenters: Cyndi Robbins has called Poland Spring home since 1971. Starting as a waitress at the age of 16 and becoming owner alongside her late husband, Mel, Cyndi has given hundreds of tours at Poland Spring and will share her stories and the history with you! Sawyer, the retired sled dog and descendant of Togo, will delight you with his gentle demeanor. After years of running the trails, he now enjoys a slower pace, retired at Poland Spring Resort. Laura Brown is the Director of Operations for the Poland Spring Preservation Society. She has been on the property for nearly her entire life! From volunteering at the young age of 5, to giving tours at age 13, she too, is fascinated with the unique history of Poland Spring. Free & open to the public. Registration is kindly requested.
