Exhibit: Working Granite

Working Granite highlights the community of Italian immigrants who came to Hallowell, Maine, in the late 1800s to work in the booming granite industry. These expert carvers—many from Carrara, Italy—helped turn Maine granite into everything from paving stones and bridges to monuments and statues.
