About Us

Inside the museum, the first floor preserves the legacy of the Fifth Maine Regiment – stained glass windows, original artifacts, relics from Gettysburg, and a restorative space that helped soldiers heal. Upstairs, engaging exhibits chronicle Peaks Island’s evolution from Maine’s “Coney Island” through its participation in World War II coastal defense, and beyond.

The museum’s wrap-around porch overlooks Casco Bay, offering a scenic setting for community and business events like pancake breakfasts, business retreats, lectures, music events, and even yoga at moonrise. The Fifth Maine is open seasonally Memorial Day through Indigenous Peoples Weekend, July–August daily, and by appointment. Ideal for trade groups, the museum provides interpretive programming, group discounts, and a charming historic space for receptions or lectures. It’s a memorable stop blending military history, island lore, scenic beauty, and local community spirit.
