Everything to See and Do During Your Visit to Freeport

If you’re planning a visit to Freeport, the first thing that may be on your list is going shopping. After all, Freeport is home to some of the best outlets on the East Coast! But it may surprise you to learn there’s much more to this town than outlets and a bustling downtown. Keep reading to find out everything you should see and do during your visit to Freeport!

Check out the Craft Brewery Scene

Think you have to go to Portland for the craft beer scene? Think again! You can stay in Freeport and find plenty of excellent beer. There are two phenomenal craft breweries in Freeport that are only a few minutes away from each other. The first brewery is only a short drive from downtown at Freeport Crossing, with easy access from the highway. Look for the Shaws, and you’ll be there! This brand new tasting room features plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoor, along with outdoor tables and food on site. There’s also plenty of parking available, and if you don’t feel like sitting down to drink a beer, you can buy cans to go!

From there, if you go about a half-mile down the road, look to your left, and you’ll see the second craft brewery. Freeport is all about convenience, and it’s a cinch to go from one to the other on a warm summer day! At this second brewery, not only will you find fantastic beer, but some seriously delicious wood-fired pizzas. There’s also an outdoor patio to make sitting with your group easy as pie. Pair that with more than enough merch, a stunning indoor space, and you have a great day ahead of you!

Cruise along the Casco Bay

You’ll be missing out if you visit Freeport in the summer and don’t leave yourself enough time for a cruise along the Casco Bay. After all, Maine is home to miles and miles of coastline, so make sure to take advantage of it! Fresh ocean breezes are the perfect pairing with lovely coastal homes as you watch them pass lazily on the water. Whether you’re on the water during the day or ending your evening with a boat ride, there’s never a bad way to see Freeport oceanside. Check out some of the many cruises and tour companies available!

Hike and Explore Bradbury Mountain State Park

There’s a reason that Maine is called Vacationland; see for yourself when you explore Bradbury Mountain State Park, located nearby in Pownal. Bradbury Mountain State Park is great for families looking to hike or find a place to sit down and have a picnic under the canopy of trees. If you hike up the mountain, the summit at the top features stunning views of the beautiful landscape around you.

There are also extensive trails, making it a perfect spot to spend a day. With over 800 acres of land, don’t be taken aback if you see horseback riders on the trails, as Bradbury Mountain State Park is the only state park in Maine that offers shared-use trails. You may also see mountain bikers, and if you’re visiting in the winter, snowmobilers and snowshoers!

Go Antiquing

Looking for a specific antique piece for your home that you can’t seem to find anywhere else? You may have luck at some of Freeport’s many antique stores! You’ll have to leave downtown to reach most of them, but it’s more than worth it to check out these places. You’ll find old records, antique furniture in pristine condition, beautiful books, and various odds and ends among many other things.

Each antique store is different, so you’ll have endless options to choose from. Several of Freeport’s antique stores are even located right next door to each other, so you can walk from one to the other without having to get back in your car. If you’re on 304 US-1, you’ll be able to find these shops with minimal effort. Some are even two stories tall, boasting the best antiques you’ll find in southern Maine.

Make Sure to Eat a Lobster!

No visit to Maine is complete without being able to say you ate a lobster! If we’re honest, the more lobster, the better, and in Freeport, you can find more than enough of this delicious shellfish. There are plenty of places to get lobster, from lobster rolls to hard shell and soft shell lobsters. From lobster shacks to more traditional fine dining options, you can find it all in Freeport! Don’t forget about the other shellfish and seafood, like steamers, littleneck clams, mussels, and scallops when they are in season. Pass the butter; it’s time to feast!

Hit Up the Outlets Downtown for Spectacular Shopping

It does go without saying that if you’re in Freeport, you’ll need to check out the outlets. The entire downtown is filled with them, along with charming boutiques and local shops begging to be explored. There is something for everyone here! Whether you’re looking for furniture, children’s clothes, or your next handbag, you’ll find all of that and then some at the outlets.

If shopping tires you out, not to worry because there are ice cream shops, cafes, dessert shops, and even a bakery or two to help you get your second wind. In need of a real meal beyond a snack or a coffee? Downtown Freeport also has unique restaurants with plenty of space so you can refuel and enjoy the rest of your day!
