Spring Point Ledge Light Trust

The Spring Point Ledge Light is neither the biggest nor the oldest lighthouse in Maine, but it is one of the most scenic. Located just across the harbor from downtown Portland, it makes a beautiful location for a day trip.

About Us

Today, this waterside view allows visitors to experience the busy traffic of the harbor up close. All day long, one views cruise ships, container ships, historic schooners, and fishing vessels with the islands of Casco Bay in the background.

The Spring Point Ledge Light is known as a spark-plug light, based on its iconic shape. There was not enough land to build a house for the keepers, so the house was encased within a small lighthouse tower. The tower includes a kitchen, sleeping quarters for two light keepers, the housing for the fifth order Fresnel Lens and the fog horn apparatus.

We run a gift shop on shore that features lighthouse souvenirs and made-in-Maine gifts.

Public tours are led by volunteers Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Saturday in July-August, or can be privately arranged year-round (weather permitting), through the Spring Point Ledge Light Trust at [email protected].
