The Real Portland Tour

Welcome to my hometown! Hop aboard for a City & 3 Lighthouses Historical Tour with a REAL local, born & raised in Portland! We’ll go where other tours go, and then I’ll take you places other tours don’t – you’ll see hidden gems that only a real local knows! I’ve been a tour guide in Portland for over 20 years, and I’m also a college librarian. I’ve spent years researching the hidden history of Portland, and I take pride in providing a personalized, entertaining, and informative tour!

You’ll get a full city tour of Portland, from the bustling downtown area with its eclectic shops and businesses, to the Arts District and the Old Port with its world class restaurants and bars, to the brownstones and Victorian architecture of residential neighborhoods, and the mansions that line the Eastern Promenade. Along the way you’ll hear stories and interesting facts that have shaped Portland into one of the most historic cities in the nation! Then we’ll drive across the harbor (pronounced hah-bah) to visit the most iconic (and most photographed) lighthouse in country, Portland Head Light. You’ll be let off here for 20 minutes to explore and take some photos. On the way back to Portland we will also visit two other lighthouses, Spring Point Light and Bug Light. On the way to these lighthouses you’ll get an up close view of Fort Preble (one of the oldest forts in Casco Bay), you’ll see a memorial to Liberty Ships that were built during WWII, and you’ll be taken to the spot that offers the BEST panoramic view of Portland!

I was born and raised in Portland, and I’ve been a tour guide here since 2001. I have a Masters degree in Library Science and am a librarian part-time during the school year at Southern Maine Community College. I’m always digging into Portland’s history to find something new and interesting, while at the same time keeping on top of current happenings and making sure to visit as many local establishments (especially our world class restaurants and bars) that I can. You’ll hear me quoting Longfellow during the tour, you’ll hear some wicked good puns, and you may even hear my own poem/rap about Portland’s history that I’ve performed at various events throughout Maine. I take pride in representing this city, and providing an informative and entertaining tour, delivered with a true Mainer’s sense of humor!
