As summer winds down in Greater Portland, the fun doesn’t have to. Local breweries across the region are rolling out seasonal beers that capture the spirit of the changing months — from crisp, cozy fall ales to creative small-batch flavors you won’t find any other time of year. So before you say goodbye to summer, raise a glass and toast to everything Greater Portland’s brewery scene has in store this fall.

Check out Shipyard Brewing Co.’s Pumpkinhead wheat ale with a hint of spice. Stop by the tasting room for the full experience, complete with a sugar-cinnamon rim.

Need an excuse for a day trip outside of Portland? Head north to Freeport to taste Mast Landing’s fall-inspired craft beer, Slow Ready. This brown ale is described as “layered with brown sugar, toasted grain, graham cracker, toffee, and molasses, with touches of milk chocolate and dark fruit underneath.” Definitely worth checking out their taproom for.

Barn Hex by Belleflower Brewing is another great option. It is their first double IPA and will get you right into the October Spirit. The outdoor patio is calling your name. The beer was made in honor of one of the owners’ family barn. Check it out before the first frost hits!

Head to Geary Brewing Co. next for their version of a seasonal craft beer. This ale is described as “biscuity and sweet caramel body and nose with just the right amount of roasted malt character lending to the red color and pleasing, with a slightly dry finish.”

Lastly, Rising Tide Brewing Company has a great Coffee Porter called Waypoint. If you’re a coffee lover, this one is for you. This beverage is described as a “mild porter with rich fruity complexity held up by a chocolatey, malty backbone.” It is available October-February.
