Crisp air, vibrant foliage, sweater weather... Ahhhhhh - it’s autumn in Maine. Wildflowers are replaced with bursts of color from changing leaves and pumpkins and apples are begging to be plucked and enjoyed in all forms. Fall is a special time in Greater Portland, a time to reap the benefits of summer’s bounty and celebrate the visual splendor that this season brings. Here’s our guide to enjoying autumn in Maine, and a roundup of some great fall festivities for you to enjoy.

Guests will also enjoy live music slopeside, a wine tent, a Bloody Mary tent, a pumpkin pie eating contest, wagon rides for the kids… and more!

Drink Local, Seasonal Beer

Summer is over, time to put away the light beers and enjoy the warmer flavors of fall on those crisp autumn days.

Shipyard Pumpkinhead Beer is a top-selling Maine seasonal that has been a crowd favorite since its inception in 2002. This wheat ale boasts delightful aromatics and a subtle spiced flavor. Also available this time of year is Pumpkinheads big brother, Smashed Pumpkin, which is a "way too easy to drink” 9.5%abv Imperial Pumpkin Ale. This big bodied beer has a light copper color and a delicate aroma of nutmeg.

Gritty’s Halloween Ale is so good, it’s scary! If pumpkin beer isn’t your thing, this fall favorite is a great substitute. This Extra Special Bitter style ale is smooth and creamy with a deep amber color, a malty palate and a well-rounded hop finish. No pumpkins are harmed in the brewing of this beer!

Rising Tide’s Märzen Lagar, Oktoberfest, releases in September as a celebration of the revitalizing autumn weather. Brewers describe this seasonal favorite as complex and malty while still being dry and crisp. We describe it as delicious!
