More About Tate House Museum:

Meticulously preserved National Historic Landmark, this Georgian colonial house was built in 1755 by mast agent for British Navy. Now, the Tate House Museum connects people to their colonial roots and helps them discover, imagine and value the relevance of this history to our lives. Over the past several decades, the museum's primary goals of preservation and education have developed and expanded. The raised bed herb garden, unique architecture, special tours and events have attracted a broad range of visitors. Tate House welcomes guests from across the country and around the globe. Students throughout the state benefit from Tate House's resources and educational programs as they learn about the mast trade and life in the eighteenth century. Open June through October, Wed through Sat 10am-4pm and Sundays 1pm-4pm, with tours on the hour. Our gift shop will be open year round. Call 207-774-6177 for the hours. Purchase tour tickets at Means House museum shop (across street from the museum).

The Tate House, located in the historic Stroudwater neighborhood, is open to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 10AM to 4PM,Sunday 1-4PM, for tours on the hour with last tour starting at 3PM. This Georgian colonial house was built in 1755 and was the home of Captain George Tate and his family. Tate was the British Mast Agent, responsible for obtaining white pine trees to be used as masts for the British Admiralty in colonial times. Come learn the history of this important trade and it's significance in fomenting of the American Revolution.
