More About Maine Brew Bus:

Having a designated driver to guide you to both established and up-and-coming producers offers an opportunity to learn much more about the craft alcohol business than you could learn on your own. Tours are led by expert guides in addition to a knowledgeable designated driver to ensure the best possible experience for our guests as well as for the businesses with which we partner. The all-inclusive tours on our bright green school buses provide you a behind-the-scenes look at Maine's craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and more. We offer daily scheduled and private tours in Greater Portland and Southern Maine. We also offer frequent specialty and adventure tours, and we even partner with local teams for tours that end at minor league hockey and baseball games. The fleet now includes four buses and additional staff. We are proud that we have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence each of the last three years because of our highly rated tours. As Maine’s total number of breweries climbs, clusters form beyond the Portland city limits. On the Southern Crawl tour, we’ll explore some of the happenings south of Portland.

We will hop on the bus and head south to Barreled Souls Brewing. Barreled Souls was founded in the summer of 2014, and may be the only brewery in the country fermenting 100% of its beer in oak barrels. They are using a Burton Union system, a wooden fermenter method originally developed in England in the 1800’s and was once the industry standard. All of their beer is produced in Saco, with larger quantities made at their Mill Brook facility and smaller batches made adjacent to their basement-level tasting room. Be prepared to try a huge variety of unusual styles, with many of their beers also spending time aging in wood barrels.

Next up, we’ll visit Dirigo Brewing Co. Tom Bull has been in all phases of the business. He is a former homebrewer, bar manager, commercial brewer, and has even worked delivering beers for a distributor. After a successful run with his previous brewery called Bull Jagger, Tom is back with his new brewery called Dirigo Brewing Company in a section of the former Biddeford mill complex. His specialty is lagers, but he knows how to brew great ales as well. Visit the impressive tasting room overlooking the Saco Falls as you sip on Tom’s great beer.

For our final stop, we will head to one of Biddeford’s former mill buildings, where we’ll check out Banded Brewing Company. Banded was founded in the winter of 2013 by cousins Ron Graves and Ian McConnell and was originally called Banded Horn. It was fitting as these two had started homebrewing together back in 2005, and Ian had received excellent preparatory training for commercial brewing while serving as the head brewer at Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brewery. They opened Biddeford’s first ever brewery in a 200 year-old mill building, part of the historic Pepperell Mills complex. Banded’s variety of both ales and lagers, as well as the spacious tasting room filled with multiple entertainment options, make this stop truly unforgettable.

At the conclusion of the Southern Crawl tour, we will drop you off back at Old Port Spirits and Cigars, where you can pick up some beer for later in the night or head out into The Old Port.

Please note that tour stops may change without notice due to events and availability of staff at each venue.
