More About Maine Brew Bus:

Having a designated driver to guide you to both established and up-and-coming producers offers an opportunity to learn much more about the craft alcohol business than you could learn on your own. Tours are led by expert guides in addition to a knowledgeable designated driver to ensure the best possible experience for our guests as well as for the businesses with which we partner. The all-inclusive tours on our bright green school buses provide you a behind-the-scenes look at Maine's craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and more. We offer daily scheduled and private tours in Greater Portland and Southern Maine. We also offer frequent specialty and adventure tours, and we even partner with local teams for tours that end at minor league hockey and baseball games. The fleet now includes four buses and additional staff. We are proud that we have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence each of the last three years because of our highly rated tours. Schedule:
Fore River Brewing Co. // Honeymaker Mead // Hardshore Distilling Co.

For our first stop, we will be visiting Fore River Brewing Co. Fore River opened in South Portland in early 2016, and they are already the oldest of three breweries in the city. John and TJ – two friends and avid homebrewers – teamed up with Alex the property owner (who had just sold his landscaping business) to open the brewery. They worked for months to hand craft and perfect their beers and the beautiful tasting room, which has both classic and modern barn elements in the design. Look for an outside beer garden at this spot just across the river from Portland.

Next up, we’ll stop at Honeymaker Mead. Founded in 2007 by Ben Alexander as Maine Mead Works, Honeymaker Mead strives to reintroduce the world to the oldest of all fermented beverages: a wine made from honey called mead. In collaboration with South African scholar Dr. Garth Cambray, they developed a state-of-the-art continuous fermentation system, bringing mead making into the 21st century. While traditional mead is often heavy and syrupy, you’ll be pleased to find that the team has developed a light, dry, modern take on the formula. Learn about the secret of their success and taste their extensive list of variations, including some invigorating sparkling Ram Island mead blends.

Last but not least, we’ll visit Hardshore Distilling. Established in 2016, this distillery founded by former New York finance manager Jordan Milne produces high-quality gins, including seasonal and special editions. The distillery is currently focused on producing Hardshore Original Gin, its flagship product. The unique recipe was developed over a period of four years and includes locally grown fresh rosemary and mint, which are unconventional in gin. Recently they were honored as the Best Craft Gin Distillery in 2017 in a nationwide competition sponsored by USA Today.

As our whirlwind tour comes to an end, we’ll drop you back off at Old Port Spirits and Cigars, where you can purchase some beer for later and is an excellent location to continue your exploration of lively downtown Portland.
