More About Maine Brew Bus:

Having a designated driver to guide you to both established and up-and-coming producers offers an opportunity to learn much more about the craft alcohol business than you could learn on your own. Tours are led by expert guides in addition to a knowledgeable designated driver to ensure the best possible experience for our guests as well as for the businesses with which we partner. The all-inclusive tours on our bright green school buses provide you a behind-the-scenes look at Maine's craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and more. We offer daily scheduled and private tours in Greater Portland and Southern Maine. We also offer frequent specialty and adventure tours, and we even partner with local teams for tours that end at minor league hockey and baseball games. The fleet now includes four buses and additional staff. We are proud that we have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence each of the last three years because of our highly rated tours. Schedule:
Island Dog Brewing // Rising Tide Brewing // Lone Pine Brewing

For our first stop, we will be visiting Island Dog Brewing. Island Dog was established in 2016 by Jim Denz and Tim Francis, and are now the third brewery to call South Portland home. They produce primarily Belgian and German-inspired beers (including herb and spice ales), and the company name comes from the owner’s love of rescue dogs and the sheer beauty of Coastal Maine. Jim spent time in the Army, worked as a high school teacher, and spent many years working in technology. Jim met Tim, who has experience with home brewing (in addition to a diverse background including retail, food service, and communications) at a beer festival a few years ago. Enjoy their spacious tasting room as you sip on beers infused with ingredients that you didn’t know would taste so good in beer.

Next up, we’ll stop at Rising Tide Brewing Company. The name of Rising Tide Brewing Company, inspired by the famous quote, “…a rising tide lifts all boats,” encapsulates the collaborative spirit of the craft beer industry. This husband- and wife-owned brewery was founded near Allagash in 2010, and moved to the now-bustling East Bayside neighborhood in 2012. They have experienced tremendous growth with the popularity of their core beers like Zephyr and Maine Island Trail Ale. After remodeling and expanding their tasting room, they saw on-site revenue increase by 50 percent. They have expanded yet again, now with a dedicated space for experimental beers brewed with wild yeast and souring bacteria, more space in their existing 5,500 square foot production floor, and an area for private events in a community room.

Last but not least, we’ll visit Lone Pine Brweing. After working in the retail side of beer for over a decade, Tom Madden decided that the time was right to break into producing his own beer. A long-time home brewer and Certified Cicerone, he reconnected with his longtime friend John Paul who had been working in the music industry in California. Together, they opened Lone Pine in March of 2016 in a former countertop production space in Portland’s East Bayside and quickly enjoyed tremendous success and popularity. In 2018, Lone Pine moved their brewery into the former Sebago Brewing brewing facility in Gorham which has increased their production volume by ten-fold. They have also opened a spacious new tasting room at the new site allowing them to also expand their barrel program.

As our whirlwind tour comes to an end, we’ll drop you back off at Old Port Spirits and Cigars, where you can purchase some beer for later and is an excellent location to continue your exploration of lively downtown Portland.
