Geary Brewing Company

Geary Brewing Company
Incorporated in 1983, Geary Brewing Company is New England’s First Craft Brewery and holds the 13th federal craft brewing license, post-prohibition. Geary’s traditional open fermentation brewing technique produces fine English style ales using Geary’s house yeast. As of Spring of 2017, under new ownership, Geary’s is committed to maintaining the tradition and history David and Karen Geary built, while simultaneously implementing contemporary brewing practices and styles.

A visit to the tasting room at the historic brewery offers a chance to taste the “brews that started it all” in the North East, and also pilot beers and the new line of Geary’s brewed for today’s drinkers. Beer styles include pale ales, porters, stouts, IPAs, lagers, and more. Tying them all together is a commitment to brewing high quality, true-to-style beers! Geary’s also offers homemade root beer, water and snacks. Tours are Thursday – Monday at 3pm.

The tasting flight features four samples. Each person receives their own tasting flight and a souvenir glass. Our tours take place at 3PM only. Please show up early so we can check you in and pour your samples. No reservation required.

When David and Karen Geary started brewing in 1983, there was a mere baker's dozen of microbreweries in the United States—and most were baking their liquid bread in California and the Pacific Northwest. The Gearys then established New England's first microbrewery two years later, and they've had more than 30 years to perfect their process.

Now, fans can knock back an assertive IPA with a malty foundation, a pale ale that invokes Burton-on-Trent brews, and a creamy mahogany London Porter. We are always experimenting with new recipes and expanding our product line in the Tasting Room.

Today the brewery also brews contemporary styles beers in closed fermentation and offers a clean crisp OG Lager and Hef’Ah Bier Hefeweisen, both true to their German styles and an American IPA that tips its hat to both the east and west coast IPA styles.

Additionally, there is always something on draught from the brewery’s very active pilot system. The brewery offers 8 brews on tap and all their other brands are always cold in the cooler. You’ll also almost always find specialty beers like barrel aged bourbon ales. Snacks and games are available as well.
