Geary Brewing Co.

Geary Brewing Co.
Geary Brewing Company is a dynamic Portland brewery with an important history in both the craft beer world and the state of Maine. Incorporated in 1983, Geary Brewing is New England's First Craft Brewery in the post prohibition era and holds federal craft brewing license #13.

This innovative brewery started a craft beer movement when it poured its flagship beer, Geary's Pale Ale, in the winter of 1986 and since then has developed an extensive line of heritage beers brewed in open fermentation.

Today, the revitalization of Geary Brewing brings a new line of true-to-style contemporary beers brewed in closed fermentation and available in 16 oz. cans. In the newly renovated tasting room, guests can sample and purchase the beers they love in the packages they prefer as well as join a complimentary tour of the historic brew house.

There's something for everyone at Geary Brewing: hazy, juicy IPAs, dark, sweet porters, stouts or brown ales, fruited lagers, sours, and even bourbon barrel aged beer.

During the summer months you can enjoy your beer of choice in the beer garden, and maybe even catch a local food truck or a Saturday event with a live band. Games and snacks are always available.

When David and Karen Geary started brewing in 1983, there was a mere baker's dozen of microbreweries in the United States—and most were baking their liquid bread in California and the Pacific Northwest. The Gearys then established New England's first microbrewery two years later, and they've had more than 30 years to perfect their process.

Now, fans can knock back an assertive IPA with a malty foundation, a pale ale that invokes Burton-on-Trent brews, and a creamy mahogany London Porter. We are always experimenting with new recipes and expanding our product line in the Tasting Room.

Today the brewery also brews contemporary styles beers in closed fermentation and offers a clean crisp OG Lager and Hef’Ah Bier Hefeweisen, both true to their German styles and an American IPA that tips its hat to both the east and west coast IPA styles.

Additionally, there is always something on draught from the brewery’s very active pilot system. The brewery offers 8 brews on tap and all their other brands are always cold in the cooler. You’ll also almost always find specialty beers like barrel aged bourbon ales. Snacks and games are available as well.
