More About Maine Brew Bus:

Having a designated driver to guide you to both established and up-and-coming producers offers an opportunity to learn much more about the craft alcohol business than you could learn on your own. Tours are led by expert guides in addition to a knowledgeable designated driver to ensure the best possible experience for our guests as well as for the businesses with which we partner. The all-inclusive tours on our bright green school buses provide you a behind-the-scenes look at Maine's craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and more. We offer daily scheduled and private tours in Greater Portland and Southern Maine. We also offer frequent specialty and adventure tours, and we even partner with local teams for tours that end at minor league hockey and baseball games. The fleet now includes four buses and additional staff. We are proud that we have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence each of the last three years because of our highly rated tours. After a long week workin' like a dog, what better way to start the weekend off than with great beer and great people? At The Maine Brew Bus, we are here to bring you just that.

Our first stop will be Austin Street Brewery. The name Austin Street neatly references both the name of co-founder/head brewer Jake Austin and the street he once lived on. Founded in the spring of 2014, Jake and his co-founder Will Fischer were barely able to keep up with demand as they were brewing on a 1-barrel system for the first two years. Now brewing on a 10-barrel brewhouse, they are able to produce and package their well known Patina Pale Ale and Six Grain milk stout right along with more unique beers that are using different yeast strains and wild fermentation methods.

Next up, we'll be visiting DL Geary's Brewing Co. New England's oldest craft brewery resides in Riverside Industrial Park, surrounded by much younger players. See inside the space that kicked off Maine’s modern brewing revolution with the release of Geary’s Pale Ale in 1986. David Geary developed the local taste for British-style beers that helped revive America’s waning beer industry. Geary’s also has a nice tasting room to accommodate visitors to the decades-old facility. After 30 years of family-run operation, the business was recently sold to a local businessman who was not previously connected to the beer industry. This change has brought about a shift in types of beers being produced, some of which you will be able to sample during the visit.

Last (but not least) we'll be stopping at Lone Pine Brewing. After working in the retail side of beer for over a decade, Tom Madden decided that the time was right to break into producing his own beer. A long-time home brewer and Certified Cicerone, he reconnected with his longtime friend John Paul who had been working in the music industry in California. Together, they opened Lone Pine in March of 2016 in a former countertop production space in Portland’s East Bayside, and they are churning out popular hoppy ales for retail sale and enjoyment in their elevated tasting room.

Finally, we’ll drop you back off at Old Port Spirits and Cigars to grab some bottles and cans before continuing your exploration of lively downtown Portland.

Please note that tour stops may change without notice due to events and availability of staff at each venue.
