More About Maine Brew Bus:

Having a designated driver to guide you to both established and up-and-coming producers offers an opportunity to learn much more about the craft alcohol business than you could learn on your own. Tours are led by expert guides in addition to a knowledgeable designated driver to ensure the best possible experience for our guests as well as for the businesses with which we partner. The all-inclusive tours on our bright green school buses provide you a behind-the-scenes look at Maine's craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and more. We offer daily scheduled and private tours in Greater Portland and Southern Maine. We also offer frequent specialty and adventure tours, and we even partner with local teams for tours that end at minor league hockey and baseball games. The fleet now includes four buses and additional staff. We are proud that we have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence each of the last three years because of our highly rated tours. Geary Brewing Co. // Lone Pine Brewing // Bunker Brewing Co.

Our first stop will be Geary Brewing Company, New England’s oldest craft brewery that calls Portland home. See inside the space that kicked off Maine’s modern brewing revolution back in 1986. David Geary developed the local taste for British-style beers that helped revive America’s waning beer industry. Geary’s also has a nice tasting room to accommodate visitors to the decades-old facility. After 30 years of a family run operation, Geary’s was bought by another set of local family business owners, Robin and Alan Lapoint. The Lapoints have been manufacturing filtration products for over 25 years in Maine serving many parts of the Beverage Industry. Taking this know-how and combining it with their knowledge of Geary’s, a customer of theirs, the new ownership acts to preserve and steward New England’s First Craft Brewery. This change has brought the addition of producing different styles of beer including lagers and IPAs, some of which you’ll have the opportunity to sample during the visit.

Next up, we’ll be stopping at Lone Pine Brewing Co. After working in the retail side of beer for over a decade, Tom Madden decided that the time was right to break into producing his own beer. A long-time home brewer and Certified Cicerone, he reconnected with his longtime friend John Paul who had been working in the music industry in California. Together, they opened Lone Pine in March of 2016 in a former countertop production space in Portland’s East Bayside and quickly enjoyed tremendous success and popularity. In late 2017, Lone Pine announced they had purchased the former Sebago Brewing brewing facility in Gorham, a move which has increased their production volume by ten-fold.

Last but not least, we’ll be visiting Bunker Brewing Co. Originally based in a tiny, brick-walled former scrapyard building in East Bayside, Bunker Brewing Company has moved to a much larger former warehouse on the West side of town. Their creative brewers make a rotating assortment of ales and lagers, making this the perfect stop during which to ask the question, “What’s the difference between an ale and a lager?” Enjoy their spacious tasting room and outside patio while pondering that important question over a well-crafted Bunker beer.

Finally, we’ll drop you back off at Old Port Spirits and Cigars to grab some bottles and cans before continuing your exploration of lively downtown Portland.

Please note that tour stops may change without notice due to events and availability of staff at each venue.
