More About Maine Brew Bus:

Having a designated driver to guide you to both established and up-and-coming producers offers an opportunity to learn much more about the craft alcohol business than you could learn on your own. Tours are led by expert guides in addition to a knowledgeable designated driver to ensure the best possible experience for our guests as well as for the businesses with which we partner. The all-inclusive tours on our bright green school buses provide you a behind-the-scenes look at Maine's craft breweries, distilleries, wineries, and more. We offer daily scheduled and private tours in Greater Portland and Southern Maine. We also offer frequent specialty and adventure tours, and we even partner with local teams for tours that end at minor league hockey and baseball games. The fleet now includes four buses and additional staff. We are proud that we have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence each of the last three years because of our highly rated tours. Our first stop is Island Dog Brewing in South Portland. Island Dog Brewing was established in 2016 by Jim Denz and Tim Francis, and are now the third brewery to call South Portland home. They produce primarily Belgian and German-inspired beers (including herb and spice ales), and the company name comes from the owner’s love of rescue dogs and the sheer beauty of Coastal Maine. Jim spent time in the Army, worked as a high school teacher, and spent many years working in technology. Jim met Tim, who has experience with home brewing (in addition to a diverse background including retail, food service, and communications) at a beer festival a few years ago. Enjoy their spacious tasting room as you sip on beers infused with ingredients that you didn’t know would taste so good in beer.

Next, we head to Thompson’s Point in Portland to visit Stroudwater Distillery. Jeff Johnson opened Stroudwater Distillery at Thompson’s Point in July 2016 with a production facility, tasting room and space for private events. The distillery is located in a 5,000-square-foot space in the “Brick North” building of the sprawling former rail yard adjacent to the Stroudwater River. Stroudwater Distillery produces small-batch bourbon, whiskey, rum, vodka and gin, and the location is also a showcase for other premium brands such as their Vespertino Tequila Crema and Griffin’s Wharf 1773 Coffee Liqueur.

Finally, we head to Portland to check out Blue Lobster Winery. When you think about how wine is packaged, you typically think of glass bottles. But what if a local company could take exceptional wine and then package it into convenient kegs and cans? Blue Lobster Wine Company was founded in Portland by Chris Gamble, and he works with wine producers from around the world to source a collection of great tasting wines, including reds, whites, and rosés. In their East Bayside tasting room, we will learn about the selection methods, the cellaring process, barrel-aging, as well as blending before packaging.

At the end of the tour, we’ll drop you back off at Old Port Spirits and Cigars to grab some bottles and cans before continuing your exploration of lively downtown Portland.

Please note that tour stops may change without notice due to events and availability of staff at each venue.
