Bring the family, friends, and pets for a day of old-fashioned, kite-flying fun at Bug Light Park from 11am to 4pm.The Bug Light Kite Festival is hosted by the South Portland Historical Society, which also operates the Cushing's Point Museum at Bug Light Park. The festival is held annually on the third weekend of May ~ always the weekend between Mother's Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend. The festival is made possible by members of the Nor'Easters Kite Club and Kites Over New England (KONE). Free admission. Please plan to have lunch at the barbecue fundraiser ~ hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, French fries, drinks and more ~ proceeds help to keep the museum open to the public with no admission charges.
Kites are offered for sale in the museum gift shop.
Bug Light will be opened for public viewing, thanks to the South Portland/Cape Elizabeth Rotary Club.
Maine Marimba Ensemble will be playing live at the 2016 festival from 11am to 1pm.
PARKING: Please do not attempt to park in Bug Light Park during the festival. There are limited spaces available in the park and they are needed for kite festival organizers (many of whom have their supply of kites in their vehicles and need access to them throughout the day) and any remaining spaces are being used for handicap accessible parking. If you are able to walk, please park in the SMCC parking lot at the end of Broadway and walk in, or park on Madison Street before you enter the park.
