Make getting there part of the experience with a trip on the Amtrak Downeaster. With five round-trips daily between Boston and Portland, the Amtrak Downeaster is your car-free connection to exciting Maine destinations. Experience even more of Maine with expanded rail service to Freeport and Brunswick.

The Portland Transportation Center (PTC) is located minutes from downtown Portland. Plenty of transportation connections make it easy to get around Maine's largest city.

Onboard the Downeaster, you will enjoy quiet, comfortable reclining seats with lots of legroom and space to move around.

Watch the scenery unfold before you as you sit back and relax in comfortable, spacious seats and enjoy a snack or beverage from the Cafe.

Enjoy fold-down trays, overhead reading lights, and convenient luggage racks.

Stay connected with free Wi-Fi and plenty of outlets for laptops and other electronic devices.

And, of course, we have plenty of spacious clean restrooms.

For an additional fee, business class riders can enjoy all the perks of coach plus extra-spacious seating, complimentary newspapers, and a free nonalcoholic beverage.

The Downeaster Cafe, typically located at the end of the train, offers breakfast sandwiches, Green Mountain coffee, Shipyard microbrews, wine, nonalcoholic beverages, as well as fresh Amato’s Italian sandwiches, light meals and friendly service. Roomy tables are also available for your convenience.

All Downeaster trains welcome passengers with special needs. Our trains and stations are wheelchair-accessible, allow service dogs, and offer assistance whenever needed.

The Downeaster is a reserved service and tickets should be purchased in advance of travel. In circumstances where no other purchase options are available, you may purchase and/or pick up your tickets onboard. On-board ticket purchases are not eligible for discounts or special offers. Conductors may charge up to $9 extra per ticket if you board the train without a ticket at a staffed station or a station with a Quik-Trak machine.
