Situated adjacent to Interstate 95, two hours north of Boston and four hours from Hartford, Portland is convenient to get to for travelers coming from the north or the south. And, positioned along Maine's southern coast and jutting into Casco Bay, it is geographically compact and easy to navigate once you are here. No matter what your preferred style of travel – by bike or bus, by ferry or on foot, the city provides easy access to car rental and transportation schedules.  The city's Transportation Center is centrally located just five minutes from the airport, area hotels and Portland's waterfront.

Portland Jetport

Portland has easy access to its local airport – major commercial airlines serve Portland, and the Portland Jetport is just three miles from downtown. Take advantage of hotel shuttles, or use car and limousine rental services conveniently located at the airport.

Ferry Service or Downeaster, Bus Line or Car Rental

Car rental services, taxi service and limousine service is available to help you navigate the city, and visitors can take the Metro bus service from outlying regions to downtown. Portland also maintains a network of bike and pedestrian routes throughout the region. The Downeaster, Portland's Amtrak passenger train, takes visitors from Boston to Portland, so it's easy to come to the city to shop, visit, and take in area attractions and restaurants. Portland is a also popular cruise ship stop, and Casco Bay Lines provides regular ferry service to nearby islands.
