Maine Historical Society
Childhood home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, America's most beloved 19th century poet.
Faithfully restored to the 1850s, the Wadsworth-Longfellow House was the childhood home of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Built in 1785-86 by the poet's grandfather, General Peleg Wadsworth, the house is one of the oldest brick structures on Portland's peninsula. Decorated with original furnishings and family memorabilia, guided tours offer a unique glimpse into the life of the poet's family, as well as into the cultural and social history of 19th century Portland. Admission includes entrance to the Maine Historical Society Museum exhibition on Maine history.

Poland Spring Preservation Park
Poland Spring Museum open free to the public
First bottled by the Ricker family back in 1845, Poland Spring Natural Spring Water was drawn from a single source deep in the woods of Maine. The original Spring & Bottling Houses at Poland Spring have become a museum for visitors of all ages. Inside the historic Bottling House, find science displays, bottling memorabilia, and a virtual tour of today's bottling plant. Maine artists gallery, Maine gem displays, and a unique gift shop filled with Maine products. Inside the Spring House, see the spring itself and imagine days when white-gloved employees served visitors spring water from silver ladles.

19th Century Willowbrook Village
The way life used to be! Two historic houses and their barns, a reproduction schoolhouse and bandstand, and a millpond grace this restored country village. Bring a picnic or enjoy lunch on site. Horse-drawn sleighs and carriages, Concord stagecoach, 1894 carousel, trades and tool exhibits (blacksmith, canoemaker, cooper, harnessmaker, printer, shoemaker, woodworker, etc.). Maine Fiberarts is a statewide arts nonprofit formed to support Maine fiber work - basketry, paper, knitting, sculpture, weaving, quilting, etc. through bimonthly exhibitions, networking and referrals, special events, newsletters, and our statewide Maine Fiberarts Tour Map. Our new Tour Map lists over 130 sites open to the public throughout 2009-2012. Many of these sites will be open and demonstrating August 7, 8, 9, 2009 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. for our special Fiber Arts Tour Weekend.
