Comments:

I love Portland because it was the first city in Maine to pass a gay-lesbian non-discrimination ordinance back in the early 90s. For a small town of about 65,000, there is also a large arts community. I feel comfortable and safe holding my girlfriend's hand while walking down the street. It's a beautiful community on the coast that is known for equality, arts and culture.

Recommended Places & Activities:

My favorite restaurant is Caiola's. This is a lesbian-owned restaurant located in Portland's West End. Not only is the food outstanding, but the back patio is the place to be seen in the summertime! I also recommend St. Lawrence Theater, First Friday Art Walk, Food Factory Miyake, and Nosh Kitchen Bar.
