five fifty-five, Portland, Maine

California-Influenced American Cuisine in a Restored 19th Century Engine House; five fifty-five has developed a reputation as one of the best fine-dining restaurants in its hometown of Portland.
Chef Corry merges seasonal and local ingredients to create fresh and simple dishes, while co-owner and wife Michelle oversees the front of the house and the 3,000 bottle wine cellar.
The focus is on freshness and seasonality - not just the four seasons - but on the continuing growing season - new ingredients sought out at the local farmer’s market and worked into the always-changing menu.
Views of the copper-hooded open kitchen can be enjoyed by dinners on the first level or from the hardwood banister mezzanine. The Point Five Lounge offers a lighter style menu.
Opens at 5pm seven nights a week. Sunday brunch from 9:30am to 2:00pm.
