President + CEO

Portland is Maine's largest city and is located on the coast, two hours north of Boston and within easy driving distance to lakes and mountains. For over 30 years the CVB has been promoting the authenticity of the region. As a vibrant and diverse community, the region is rich with history, cultural attractions, culinary expertise, eclectic shopping, and outdoor recreation.
With a full and part-time staff of 22 and a budget of $1.2 million, the CVB markets to meeting planners, travel agents, cruise lines, national and international tour operators, leisure travelers, sports enthusiasts and wedding planners.
The President + CEO is responsible for visionary leadership, for attaining all strategic goals and objectives including financial, operational and promotional initiatives. In addition, the President + CEO is the community liaison between the organization and business, government and community leaders at state and local levels. This position is responsiblefor contact withthe media for all bureau related public policies and public relations.
This position reports to a 30-person Board of Directors through an 8-person Executive Committee.
Key Responsibilities
Initiates and directs the development of organizational policies, strategic plan and budget for Board approval.
With senior management team, develops and supervises the implementation of an annual operating and marketing plan in order to promote the destination to local, state, regional, national and international audiences.
Raises funds through membership dues, sponsorships and grants to operate the organization.
Attends and supports regular Executive Committee and Board Meetings in a non-voting capacity.
Establishes and maintains ongoing effective communications with members, governmental & business leaders,cultural institution, and the local tourism industry.
Represents the bureau at selected local, state, regional, national and international conventions that serve to foster the betterment of the bureau's mission.
Is the bureau representative for its professional organization partner, the Destination Marketing Association International.
Develops and maintains effective organizational policies, and ensures that all bureau activities are implemented within these established policies, guidelines, laws, and ethical standards.
Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned personnel; coordinates staff training; oversees implementation of discipline and termination procedures for all staff members.
Works with each department to establish attainable goals, and assists staff in order to meet those goals.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior management position with supervisory, fundraising, strategic planning, and budgetary responsibilities.
Strong ability to lead and influence a diverse group of people.
Outstanding communication and public speaking skills.
Understanding of hospitality and tourism industries.
Demonstrated computer and social media skills.
Bachelor's degree

Do you like to meet interesting people from around the world? Do you like making new friends? Can you handle four to five hours of busy, people-oriented work once or twice a week? If so, the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Portland has the perfect volunteer opportunity for you.
You don't have to be a living encyclopedia to be a volunteer. Training, printed resources and kindred spirits are all it takes to be a Visitor Information Specialist at the CVB. Volunteers can work as often as they like, usually in four to five hour shifts. A minimum commitment of one shift per week is required. Training is readily available, and now is a good time to start preparing for the summer season.
